The devil still roams Inkwell Isles. Harming the innocents and getting away with it scot-free.

When a group of inexperienced, and unemployed outcasts take charge and create a secret organization to form a group of young rangers/super soldiers to stop him.

These rangers are young (remaining) descendants of the Calix Animi (including the Cupbros). For the founder believes they haven’t “lived up to their promise” and so this project will fulfill their purpose of protecting the Isles. To finish what they started and rid of the devil and his demons once and for all.

They call it W.A.R.F.A.R.E.

Okay I actually feel sick inside

Another one of my friends on discord revealed to be using c.a/i

How do I even respond to any of them when they bring it up? How am I meant to tell them just how harmful the things they're using is?

The first one mentioned is, in fact, aware that it's unjustifiable but still uses it.

I don't know. It's actually making me feel sick.

I'll just try to express feeling upset whenever generative a/i is brought up in a positive light but also.. I don't want to break anymore bridges than I already lost.

Its just wrong- it takes away the beauty of all art forms, whether its writing, art, or music.

Generative a/i, character a/i, doesn't matter. It still steals from actual artists. It still steals from good, hard work, and for what? Roleplay? Free time?

It could've been great, really. Instead of using a/i to do the mundane- like chores, or using it to solve something revolutionary in the field of science and medicine, they use it for.. "art." For uncanny-valley, cocomelon-type pictures. For incorrect information in graphics AND in writing. We don't want a/i to draw and write for us so we can do chores (I saw this in a tweet once), we want a/i to do our chores so we can draw and write.

And I'm so, so sick of people acting like its a good thing, like using generative a/i is justifiable in anyway, or just cause others may be using it.

It's everywhere, now. My friend -idk if we're friends anymore, honestly- uses c-a/i and swears it's "just for roleplay," the pastor at church used generative a/i to get a picture of something from the Bible, and students at school uses ChatGPT to get the job done.

Don't they see how damaging it is to not only the art industry, but to the world?

C-a/i is never accurate to the characters they portray. They steal from fics and turn it into their generative slop. It's not even good slop! The grammar? Punctuation? Proper sentences? Don't need that, apparently! In fact, that very same "friend" showed me a screenshot of c-a/i messing up by saying Tails (from Sonic the Hedgehog) is the only one who'd be seen riding a motorcycle. And any STH fan would know that its not Tails, it's Shadow who rides a motorcycle. Tails rides a plane.

A/i "art" is even worse. I've seen how inaccurate the final stuff could be. A baby bird doesn't look like a real one when generated through that slop. It's actually damaging to how we see information. Not only that, but the "art" generated is still so, so harmful to actual artists. Who needs passion, anyway? Who needs love put into art, anyway? When generating an a/i image, you put love and passion... where, exactly? In the prompt box?

I'll explain this in hypotheticals.

Its the year 2030. You wake up and begin a brand new day.

You open a book and cringe. This doesn't look like a good plot. This doesn't look like a plot, at all?

You learn that it's written through character a/i.

You turn the TV on. All the cartoons you used to love is gone. An uncanny "cartoon" took its place, with soulless eyes and a robotic voice. You turn the TV off and go outside.

But wait- the world is.. crumbling?! That's right- A/I is bad for the Earth! It's ACTUALLY damaging the world!

And somehow- somehow- you develop a sickness, so you go to the hospital to get it checked out.

To your horror, the doctor merely shrugs and says that he doesn't know what sickness you have.

"But how could this be?! You're a doctor! You're supposed to know these things!"

You find out that the doctor used ChatGPT to get through college, and didn't actually perceive the information required.

Then you die. The speeches people read out for your funeral were generated through ChatGPT. Truly a terrible way to die.

People need to understand just why all this a/i nonsense is bad. I feel like they go, "yeah, a/i is bad" and turn around to their a/i roleplays and ChatGPT, ready to defend themselves for using that slop.

To the mentioned "friend", to the mentioned pastor, and to the students who may or may not read this;

I wish I could tell you just how bad this a/i stuff is. I wish you'd understand. I wish you'd listen.

I wish generative a/i never existed.

Substitute MC?

I tried to use a different word then replaced because I know a lot of replaced MC AUs exist and this isn't that.

So I haven't gotten to chapter 16? but if you're on obey me Tumblr you'll quickly get spoiled so spoilers for you know what beneath the cut.

Okay so question/idea/brainrot thing.

From my understanding Barbatos does not save MC in chapter 16, the MC from that universe dies completely and totally, he just snags an MC from another universe right before the deed is done to replace the one that died.

Barbatos is also very meticulous! So to make sure there were no conflicts he very carefully selected an MC from a world that had the exact same experiences as the MC from the OG world so there would be no conflict in memories / interactions with the characters.

So my question is about the OTHER reality. Because there are a few possibilities.

A. We know he's meticulous. So did he find a reality where everything lined up experience wise but even though the boys acted nice they didn't care for alternate!MC. Considering the MC was plucked from that reality, probably alternate!Barbatos knows what's going on but unless he shares with the others ,alternate!MC just disappeared. So OG!Barbatos would need to pull alternate!MC from a reality where they wouldn't care but still act enough like they did so that MC's memories line up for assimilation.

B. Or alternatively the dateables just all dropped dead for some reason in that moment? God struck them down for not protecting the human idk.

C. Because otherwise there's just this alternate universe where the brothers are FREAKING OUT because Belphie tried to harm the human and the human went poof! AND THEY CANT FIND THEM!!! Until Alternate!Barbatos tells them they got snatched to another dimension.

C.A Does the guilt for harming alternate!MC make them willing to not try and get MC back. The whole they're better off somewhere safer.

C.B Or do we have a bunch of demons unable to answer the call of their pacts but feeling alternate!MC when they're in danger or call for them going feral and probably yandere as they try to tear through space and time to retrieve alternate!MC.

C.B.2 Does that mean that just a side plot the OG!dateables do, and probably hide from alternate!MC, is fighting off the alternate!dateables to keep alternate!MC in their reality.

D. For angst or creepy purposes alternatively you could also make it so Barbatos wasn't so meticulous, and pulled a close enough MC that MOSTLY had aligning memories with the OG!Realm. So randomly alternate!MC will reference some past event that hasn't happened in this reality, and is reminded this isn't their world. Imposter syndrome-like.

E. What did they do with OG!MC's body? Is there a grave? Did they eat it? Was there a funeral considering alternate!MC is here? Do the boys ever think about how they failed OG!MC and even though an MC is HERE it's not the original?

F. Would they allow alternate!MC the option to return? I haven't heard differently so I assume the boys never asked if MC would like to return to the other timeline. It was just assumed since the realities were pretty much the same alternate!MC would stay.

F.A Because if I learned that I had been killed in this reality and they were using me as a substitute for their failures I would be bailing out of there faster than a sinking ship.

F.A.2 Would they let you leave though? They failed their jobs they were given to protect the human, and potentially had to go through the feeling of there contract breaking briefly until Alternate!MC arrived and re-established the connections. Once the alternate!MC arrives they could be relieved because they have a second chance they didn't mess up THAT bad MC is right HERE!

WHAT YOU WANT TO LEAVE THEM?

Oh because they hurt you? Don't worry just give them a chance they'll do much better this time! Queue the yandere potential music. If the alternate!dateables are trying to get them back it turns from a retrieval to a rescue scenario in this reality.

F.A.2.A Does that mean pacts cross realities? That if you've made a pact with a demon you hold that pact across realities. That leaves some room for an Evil!MC or Evil!Solomon who hold the contracts to cross worlds and try to take over the other world, and use the demons against their will to do it because they must obey the pact holder. Could be a good idea for an ACTUAL replaced MC fic.

CARESS method for self-harm

i don’t know how to phrase this well, but Lisa Ferentz’s CARESS/CARES model for handling urges to self-harm is the only thing that has legitimately helped me after eight years of struggling with self-harm, so i wanted to share it for anyone who feels misunderstood or misrepresented by the tips that are commonly shared online. 

C.A. - Communicate Alternatively 

sometimes the urge to self-harm comes from a desire to communicate a pain that is extremely difficult to communicate. art is also really good at expressing the inexpressible. you can draw, paint, write, sing, whatever works. i like to show what i’ve made to someone so that they can see in an abstract way what i’m dealing with and the pain doesn’t feel invisible anymore. 

R.E. - Release Endorphins 

the act of self-harm does actually release endorphins and that’s why we find ourselves doing it over and over as a way to escape intense and overwhelming emotions. there are other ways to get those brain chemicals though and to help you find relief from that build up of pressure that sometimes precedes self-harm. you can do sit-ups, jumping jacks, etc. but if that kind of motion isn’t available to you, you can also watch a video that makes you laugh, call a friend, eat your favorite food, whatever. 

S.S. - Self-Soothe 

this is pretty much standard, instagram infographic self-care. massage your neck, listen to music that relaxes you, take a bath, wrap yourself in a heavy blanket and rock back and forth. sometimes when i want to self-harm it comes from a desire to be unkind to myself, so it helps me get out of that spiral to do the opposite of what i want to do. i make myself a cup of tea and listen to my happy music instead of my sad “i wanna make myself feel worse” music. i start off doing it grudgingly but i usually come around eventually.

Shadow Work • Exercise #1

Dualism and Animism

Disclaimer: This is not a work of personal opinion, merely a use of historical facts and concepts to build up a correlation. In no way, shape or form is this meant to be read as a favoring of one belief over the other, instead, the objective of this research is to provide an informed and contextualized application of a specific belief in Shadow Work.

Dualistic Belief in Witchcraft

In witchcraft and religion, Dualism means that there is a belief in two divine or supreme powers that oppose each other, and through a shock, mix or encounter they caused the World to come into existence. There are different types of dualistic views, but the concept of two opposing forces is maintained, with changes of how these forces work, which originated first and so on.

Through historic facts, we can see that the Dualistic belief originated in the Ancient World (3000 C.a) and slowly start to reappear with the passage of time, it can be seen in the Middle Eastern (Mesopotamia, Egypt and Iran) religions, as well as in Greece (Hellenistic), India (Hinduism), China (Yin and Yang).

With that brief historical contextualization, we can better understand and identify the origins of certain terms, concepts and beliefs commonly used in many actual witchcraft practices, through the focus of this research doesn’t lie in them, it would be a pity to not briefly mention them so that we can take a look at the historical roots and it’s ramifications and similarities in the actuality.

Light and Dark

We can point out the existence of a distinction between Light and Dark in many specific beliefs and religions, but to briefly explain this dualism, I’ll broaden these beliefs into the Witchcraft Umbrella, generally defined as the “The activity of performing magic to help or harm other people” (Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary & Thesaurus). In Witchcraft there is a recurring concept (that creates many discussions within the community) about Light Magick and Dark Magick. These are opposing forces, wherein in Light is said to be the ethical performing of protection, peaceful and healing magick, and in the Dark is where people define curses, hexes and practices that cause harm.

Left-Hand Path and Right-Hand Path

The beliefs of the dualism of the Left- and Right-Hand Path was originated in India, to distinguish those that followed certain ethical codes that abided to cultural norms (The Right Handed Path) from those that followed another specific spiritual path, seen as extreme to cultural beliefs (The Left Hand Path).

What this means is that the Right-Hand Path is one that is constructive and communitarian, the knowledge is achieved, exchanged and taught for the sake of the majority or group, as opposed to the Left-Hand Path, in which one seeks knowledge with their inner growth and enlightenment in mind.

Then, this term was integrated in western Witchcraft, and the Left-Hand Path became a representative of those who performed Dark Magick and The Right-Hand Path of those who performed Light/White Magick.

Good and Evil

Another dualistic concept, that too generates a great amount of discussion is Good and Evil. These are opposing powers, and this concept is one that can be described as an ideology in certain contexts, if described by Chauí (1981b: 3) “Ideology is a systematic body of representations e norms that “teach” us how to obtain knowledge and act, which objective is to unify thought, language and reality to the image of a dominating class.” With that said, an ideology can be applied to any belief or knowledge. And then enters the concept of Good and Evil in Witchcraft, its first historical appearance was in the Ancient World (ac 3000) in Iran, and so, we’ve completed the cycle and wound up in the topic of Dualism’s origins.

The Animistic Belief

Now, let’s revisit the Paleolithic period (2.5 Million years ago to 10.000 B.C), it is the oldest period of history, when humans were in the early stages of discovery of tools. In that period there are many evidences of traditions, such as burying the dead, that we still practice to this day. There are also evidences of a religious practice, or perhaps a world view, known as Animism.

Animism, in brief words, is the belief that everything in the World and the Universe has a distinct spiritual essence, all is alive, all breathes. It can be assumed that at the time, the concept of magick didn’t exist, because there was no concept for material or mundane, or whichever may be the antonym of magick/spiritual. Through this, we can see that there was no distinction between the spiritual and the material, they were one and the same. As such, when everything has essence and spirit, dualistic concepts held no ground in that. Instead, it was believed that there was one single “culture” that could have a variety of natures.

What that means is that the divine powers were encompassing, they were both Chaos and Order, Light and Dark, not as opposites, but as existences and compliments of each other. Good or evil was entirely based on morals and acts, but it was not an inherent of the Divine Powers. So it is safe to assume that animism is a non-dualistic belief.

With that said, many indigenous beliefs still have traces or follow animistic world views, such as Shamanism and Totenism (One can be seen in the other, but they are not necessarily the same). There are also some religions, philosophies or belies that believe in nondualism, such as some branches of Buddhism.

Nondualism applied in Shadow Work

With all that contextualization, we arrive at the final objective.

This concept can be seen as an exercise, one that suggests going back the roots of humanity and briefly forgetting many years of a shared Dualistic world view to practice and look at Shadow Work through a non-dualistic perspective.

If the Shadow is a part of us that we fundamentally consider evil, and Shadow Work is meant to balance our inner selves and promote self-knowledge and self-acceptance, it feels kind and dignified, perhaps even honorable to our common ancestors, to try and exercise a wholesome view over Shadow Work.

The Challenge here is to try and stop the ingrained thought of “This is my dark side, and it needs to breathe. It is bad, but I need to accept it to become enlightened and balanced.” and instead, slowly shift that thought to a more accepting and kinder view, a non-dualistic view of yourself in your wholeness.

A Suggested Exercise

When doing Shadow Work, let’s try and shift the previous thoughts, instead, let us try and think:

“This is my dark side, it is part of me, I may not like it or accept it at the moment, but that does not mean that my Shadow is the opposite of me. My Shadow is not Evil, and I don’t intend to work with it as one does a disease while trying to obtain a cure. My Shadow is dark, but my shadow is me, and I'll try to understand and accept it. There is no evil and there is no good within this Work, there is only me.”

I think this can be of course, altered to one’s taste and demand, as long as the point stands, and that’s a non-dualistic view of this process.
